Critical Security Update for ASUS Computers
As recently reported on the news, ASUS fell victim to a supply chain attack (aka Shadow Hammer) in which attackers took control of their automatic software update server. The attack began as early as June 2018 and was used to push malicious software updates including malware to over 1 million Windows computers worldwide. This appears to have been a targeted attack aimed at infecting specific MAC addresses which were hardcoded in the malware.
ASUS has made available a new version of their Live Update software (3.6.8) and there is a tool available from Kaspersky Labs to check your MAC address against the target list.
